PARENT/PLAYER MEETING FOLLOW-UP

I just wanted to make sure to thank all of you again for attending last night's meeting. I can speak for my staff when I say that the parent involvement we have is encouraging to us all. Thank you for your valuable time and attention.

On that same note, knowing how valuable a Saturday night is, and how much we stress punctuality in our program, you have my sincerest apologies that we did not start on time last night. As you know, there are a lot of moving parts to a presentation like that, and it is my fault that we were negligent in beginning the meeting 20-25 minutes late.

That being said, I appreciate you taking the time to listen to our coaches speak about what the program means to them, the players, and our families. I realize that sometimes the message can seem a bit intense, but I can promise you that is because doing this job well means so much to my staff and me (and because I made the mistake of having a meeting immediately after practice--which, apparently, is never a good idea!).

Again, thank you for all you do for our players, families, and Enumclaw Football. We are looking forward to working with you all for many years to come.

GO HORNETS!!!

Sincerely,

Coach Bartel and Staff

NEW CONCUSSION SAFETY POLICY

This is an important message for our football athletes. Late last spring Washington State passed new requirements dealing with preventing concussions. The regulations of these requirements were released in July. As a result of these new requirements, all athletes and their parents must review a concussion information sheet, sign it, and return it to EHS during their sports registration process. This is in addition to our current athletic registration paperwork. All forms must be complete in order for a student to turn-out for any practice. The new form, along with current forms, is currently available in the main office as well as on the high school web site.

CALENDAR UPDATE: FALL PRACTICE

The EHS Football Calendar has been updated to reflect all Fall Practice times. Please make a note as all players are expected to attend all practices and meetings in order to fully participate in game preparation and play in the games.

CAMP LETTER

This letter is intended for those of you that will be attending football camp at the University of Puget Sound with us starting Sunday. In order to facilitate the enjoyment and productivity of this experience for players, coaches, and parents alike, it is important for us all to have a base understanding of this trip. Below, you will find the necessary information to ensure that football camp runs smoothly and benefits all who attend.

Purpose: We go to football camp for one main reason—to better ourselves as a team. We accomplish this through intense competition with other highly skilled and accomplished programs and our unique opportunity to get away from home in order to spend time developing skills, understanding responsibilities, building our 2009 football team. Because of this, we view it as a business trip.

General Information: The camp starts on Sunday afternoon. We will meet in the EHS parking lot at 10:30 a.m. with a departure time of no later than 11:00 a.m. Players/parents are responsible for making sure each individual has an appropriate ride to camp. We are set to check into the camp (players report to get room assignments and meal tickets) at 12:00 p.m. Athletes will need to bring a lunch as the first meal isn't until dinner time. The camp has a format that mirrors a regular practice only the “scout” team is actually a team from another school. This format will run from Sunday through Wednesday with Thursday morning reserved for shorter, full-contact scrimmages. We should be checked out by early afternoon on Thursday the 16th. As for payment, you should have already submitted your final payment on the balance of the camp fee to the EFF—if not, you must do so immediately. The EFF will write one single check for the total amount for the team.

For Parents: We encourage you to take the time to come watch the scrimmages on Thursday morning—it is a great opportunity for you to see what we have accomplished over the course of the week in regards to our purpose stated above. Aside from your attendance on Thursday, we would respectfully request that you not arrive on campus at any time other than dropping your player off on Sunday. We need this time away to learn some independence, discipline, and teamwork that can only come from being at camp with teammates.

For Players: Bring fans—rooms can get hot—snacks, extra water/Gatorade/etc, extra socks, NO icy hot, and pizza money. You will have some down time, and it will be important to have something to occupy your time, so bring something productive. We have seen players even bring in televisions in order to play video games while relaxing between practices and competitions. Also, if you have a tendency to “chafe” over periods of prolonged activity (this means you OL and DL guys) please remember to bring “Gold Bond” or some other deterrent.

Discipline: Unfortunately, it is important to include a word on this subject as this is a business trip, and every once in a while a player will forget that and make a mistake that will disrupt the focus of our trip. Therefore, if a player’s behavior jeopardizes our work; his parent/guardian will be called immediately and asked to come remove him from the situation. In short, this means that if a player is caught doing something illegal, immoral, inappropriate, or otherwise disruptive (as determined by the coaching staff of EHS and/or UPS) he will be asked to leave; and his parent/guardian will be expected to pick him up IMMEDIATELY with no refund of camp monies paid. Your acceptance of this letter will mean that you understand and agree to the policy above. If you have questions or concerns regarding this, you must contact Coach Bartel at coachbartel@gmail.com prior to camp.

As a staff, we would like to thank you for understanding the value of such an endeavor. Last year was the first year in many that Enumclaw Football attended a camp, and we believe it contributed immensely to the success we saw last season. Thank you for your continued and unconditional support of this program. We’ll see you on Sunday!

The second Enumclaw Football Foundation (EFF) meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 in the EHS library.

If you would like to contribute to the positive playing experience of all our young men, please come to the meeting, volunteer, and work with us!

We look forward to seeing you there!

A BIG "THANK YOU"

We want to extend our appreciation to all the parents who made it to the Enumclaw Football Foundation informational meeting last night. We appreciate your efforts, and there is now a genuine excitement in the air over the many opportunities for parents, coaches, and community members to work hand in hand ensuring a positive playing experience for our young men.

If you were unable to make it last night, keep checking back for more information regarding the next EFF meeting in June.

Edit: We want to make clear that you do NOT need to be a member of the EFF to participate, volunteer, or contribute to any of the committees or activities we have planned. Ultimately, we would like to have 100% membership, but--more importantly--we need parent volunteers to help us make this season a great one. Thank you, again, for your help.

Thursday, May 14, 2009

REMINDER: ENUMCLAW FOOTBALL FOUNDATION

Please remember that we have a parent meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th in Coach Bartel's room #208 at 7:00 pm. (edit: there is a chance that with a large crowd that this meeting may be moved to the EHS library.)

Topics will include issues related to both the newly-formed Enumclaw Football Foundation and volunteer opportunities for all parents.

We look forward to seeing you there!

GO HORNETS!!

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HORNET FOOTBALL FAMILY!!!

We would just like to take a minute to thank the 100+ players and parents that took the time last night to be at our annual Spring Kick-Off Meeting.

Hopefully we covered all pertinent issues, and you can now faithfully plan ahead knowing exactly how our Spring, Summer, and Fall will look. Be sure to use the calendar to keep up-to-date on all things Hornet Football.

If you have any questions, please contact Coach Bartel.

We look forward to a great season in 2009!

FOR PARENTS AND PLAYERS: 2nd ANNUAL SPRING KICK-OFF MEETING

Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 pm in the EHS gym, we will have our annual Spring Kick-Off meeting.

All those interested in playing football this fall (from Frosh to Seniors) need to plan on attending with at least one parent/guardian.

We will be discussing Spring Football, Football Camp, Summer Calendar, Fall Calendar, and much more.

If you can not attend, be sure to notify Coach Bartel.

We look forward to seeing you there!

GO HORNETS!!

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

ATTENTION ALL FOOTBALL PLAYERS: THE WEIGHT ROOM IS OPEN!!

All prospective football players who are not participating in school sponsored sports this spring are expected to be in the weight room on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at 2:45.

Coach Giampapa has taken the time to individualize each weight program to fit the individual player's needs, capabilities, and goals. We are seeing remarkable gains by those who have already participated.

All you have to do is pay $10 to the cashier, fill out the release form, and show up!

The weight room is where the foundation for a championship football program is built, and that is why state "powerhouse" programs continue to have 50-60 athletes lifting regularly in the off-season.

Friday, February 6, 2009

BRUCE BROWN IS COMING TO EHS

Coach Bruce Brown will be making a special trip to Enumclaw High School on Monday, March 2nd. The presentation will take place in the EHS auditorium, and ALL ENUMCLAW PARENTS, ATHLETES, AND COACHES ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. This night will prove to be a great advantage to us all as we continue to cultivate a positive, supportive, and competitive environment for all our athletic programs.

If you would like to know more about Coach Brown and his message, please click here.

We look forward to seeing you there!

EHS FOOTBALL CALENDAR
